No Attacks By Unknown Gunmen In South-East During Elections – Ohanaeze Ndigbo Commends Voters For Maintaining Peace

This was according to a statement by the council and  made available to newsmen in Owerri by the council's chairman, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, in which the group said, that the peaceful conduct of the polls in the regions was in response to the council's appeal for calm among the angry agitators in the zones.

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide Elders Council has expressed satisfaction with the peaceful conduct of elections in the South-East and South-South regions. 
This was according to a statement by the council and  made available to newsmen in Owerri by the council's chairman, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, in which the group said, that the peaceful conduct of the polls in the regions was in response to the council's appeal for calm among the angry agitators in the zones.
While praising the people of the zone for coming out to exercise their franchise, he assured that the proposed peace summit being organised by the Ohanaeze elders would soon take place.
He said, “I wish on behalf of Council of Elders of Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide to express our thanks and appreciation to Igbo in Southeast, Rivers State, Delta State and other parts of Nigeria for coming out in large numbers to exercise their civic responsibility during the presidential election held on 25th February 2023. 
“We are glad to observe that throughout the election, there was no kidnapping incident or attacks by unknown gunmen on innocent citizens in Southeast and other parts of Igbo land.
“By this action, I am convinced that all those concerned have faithfully and loyally heeded to the request and appeal of Ohaneze Council of Elders Worldwide for peace in order to ensure ull and uninterrupted participation of all Igbos in Nigeria election. 
“You will recollect that at a meeting of Council of Elders, held before the election, the Elders agreed that a peaceful resolution of the problem of insecurity in Igbo land should be adopted.
“As soon as the election is over, we shall have a Peace Summit which we sincerely believe will pave the way for peace and development of Igbo land and Nigeria. Meanwhile, we look forward to a very successful 2023 elections where people’s vote will count,” he stated.
