Nigerian Police Bust Child Trafficking Syndicate, Arrest Two Women, Rescue Victims Sold To Abuja

The Enugu State Command of the Nigerian Police Force has arrested two child stealing trafficking syndicate and rescued two children.

It was gathered that the two suspects identified as Miracle Orji (24) and Blessing Ani (34) were arrested in different locations in Enugu State by police operatives attached to Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) on March 24, 2023.

The Command's Spokesperson DSP Daniel Ndukwe, who confirmed the incident in a statement, on Tuesday, said the police operatives busted the child stealing and trafficking syndicate following credible information received from the public.

Ndukwe said that sequel to the arrest of the two syndicates, two children namely - Ogechi Eneh (female) aged (4) and Destiny Okechukwu (male) aged (1) were rescued.

According to him, "Preliminary investigation reveals that on 24/03/2023, Miracle Orji stole and was escaping with Ogechi Edeh, before she was intercepted and arrested with the assistance of citizens at Ameke-Oduma Community in Aninri Local Government Area.

"Her confessional statement led to the arrest of Blessing Ani around Shoprite Mall Enugu, where she was waiting to receive and further traffic the child."

He also noted that during interrogation of Blessing Ani, she confessed to have been involved in the act of child trafficking since 2017 and guided the operatives to Abuja, where the male victim, Destiny Okechukwu, who had been sold with fake documents and renamed Chibuike, was rescued."

While the command's spokesman said that efforts are ongoing to arrest other members of the syndicate, insisted that the suspects would be arraigned in court after conclusion of investigation.
