A South Africa-based Nigerian female interior designer, Ayanda Carter, has been reportedly detained by the Nigeria Police Force in Abuja after one of her rich clients reported her to the police over the work she did for him.
According to the trending information on Ayanda’s detention, she received threats from her client identified as Stanley Uzochukwu, and went to the police to report; she was later invited to Abuja for questioning but never returned.
It was gathered that the designer’s detention was connected to a work she did for Uzochukwu, who is said to have threatened her and eventually orchestrated her detention.
Explaining why Ayanda was arrested, a Twitter user, @OloladeAngel said, “For those wondering why #FreeAyanda is trending; apparently an interior designer was unlawfully arrested by her wealthy client after going to the police to complain about threats she was receiving from him.”
Another netizen, @humairehhassan said that “They invited Ayanda for questioning, she flew to Abuja and never returned back home. This is very sad and something needs to be done asap to get her out.”
Also calling for her release, @njamasi_ said, “Ayanda Carter is a Nigerian based South African interior designer and a single mother who has been detained unlawfully by Stanley Uzochukwu.”
Another Twitter user, @LordSam_ questioned “Why would you arrest and detain someone simply because you don't like a job they did for you?
“I don’t see anything wrong with this work. Stanley Uzochukwu needs to fix this up and.”
However, at the time of filing this report, the Police has not made an official statement on Ayanda’s detention.
