$100,000 Laundering: Court Adjourns Trial Of Lagos Former Attorney-General, Shasore To October
June 27, 2023

The Federal High Court sitting in Lagos State has adjourned the trial of a former Attorney-General of Lagos State, Mr Olasupo Shasore, until October 4, for hearing.

Nigeria’s anti-corruption agency, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), had in 2022 arraigned the former Attorney-General of Lagos State, Olasupo Shasore (SAN), for alleged money laundering.

The Lagos Zonal Command of the Commission arraigned the AG on a four-count charge bordering on money laundering to the tune of $100,000 before Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke of the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos.

Shasore was alleged to have committed money laundering to the tune of $100,000 without going through a financial institution.

However, at the resumed hearing on Tuesday, Mr Bala Sanga announced appearance for the prosecution while Mr Olawale Akoni (SAN) announced appearance for the defendant.

Akoni who told the court that the matter for the day was for hearing of their application dated and filed Feb. 17, also explained to the court that there were some developments in the matter, which might affect hearing of the application.

He noted that recent event showed the possibility of amicable resolution of matter, saying that a similar case was also pending before the Lagos High Court, Ikeja.

He requested for an adjournment to enable parties succinctly exhaust discussions and reach agreement in the matter.

The prosecution counsel, who confirmed Akoni’s submission, did not object to his plea for adjournment.

Consequently, Aneke acquiesced to Akoni’s request and adjourned the matter to October 4 for hearing.

Shasore served as the Attorney-General of Lagos State and Commissioner for Justice, during former Governor, Babatunde Fashola’s tenure.
