It was further alleged that the chairman failed to tender the money made from the sale of the club players to the appropriate authorities.

Kwara United Fans has written to the state governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq to probe the alleged misappropriation of the club’s funds and resources.

This is contained in a letter addressed to the office of the governor dated July 10, 2023, detailing how the club chairman, Kunbi Titiloye, had allegedly diverted the proceeds from the sale of the club’s players and properties.

The statement claimed that Kunbi sold a car attached to the office of the secretary of the club, a Toyota Camry car attached to the office of the chairman of the club and some other properties without remitting the funds to the club.

It was further alleged that the chairman failed to tender the money made from the sale of the club players to the appropriate authorities.

The letter reads: "Selling of Kwara United vehicles without informing the state government - KIA Saloon car attached to the office of the secretary of the club; Toyota Camry car attached to the office of the chairman of the club; Toyota Corolla car used by the former coach of the club and 32 Seaters player's Coaster Bus that had an accident some years back. Some players are still complaining about not receiving their May and June salaries after being dropped.

“Three players, Ohanu Michael, Wasiu Jimoh and Afeez Nosiru were sold in dollars to foreign countries without proceeds coming to the State Government but their pockets."

The fans also accused Kunbi of buying some 'unworthy international players' for the club to syphon money.

The statement added: “Buying of unworthy foreign players that could not contribute anything to uplift the club; a grand plan for embezzlement. Names of such players:

“MOUSSA DIARRA (MALI), 2015/2020 LUKAS ALVES (US) 2020/2021, KONE IBRAHIM (COTE D' IVOIRE) 2020/2021, EMMANUEL JOEL (US) Goalkeeper mid-season of 2020/2021.

“These players came in through the chairman, didn't play any match, collected their money in full, while those that played were still being owned to date. That's how the government cumulatively became indebted to officials and players of Kwara United.

“Using of Kwara United FC fund to support ABS FC, using Kwara State money to fund enemies of APC. It is crystal clear that these people are anti-government, the remnants of PDP agents of doom, ostentatiously working for PDP.

“The club is now indebted to many people due to frauds perpetuated by the Chairman and the General Manager.

“The officials are not paid match bonuses for the past two seasons while the players are being paid intermittently.

“The General Manager is known for match-fixing, selling of Kwara United matches to opponents with impunity despite the chairman being informed of the malicious acts.

“Misappropriation of more than 55% of the N20M released for the part payment of the outstanding sign-on fees the government is owing the former Kwara United players and officials inhuman treatment of officials and staffers of Kwara United FC.

“Blackmailing of the State Government for non-release of funds as the remote cause of the club's dwindling performances most especially the recently concluded season.

“Delay in the regrassing of the stadium pitch is an orchestrated negative plans to take the team away from home to perfect their strategic way of squandering available funds.”

Kunbi had also been accused of mismanaging over N18 million while he was the administrator of the state-owned Kwara Football Academy, which eventually led to his dismissal.

THE INFORMANT247 learned that the money, which was obtained as the academy’s income between 2011 and 2012, was meant for the purchase of equipment and provision of logistics for the professional football training school.

However, in August 2019, about 8 years after his unceremonial dismissal from the academy over financial misappropriations and general mismanagement, the incumbent governor of Kwara State, AbdulRazaq named him the new Chairman of Kwara United Football Club.

SaharaReporters also reported how some former players and staff of the club lamented the non-payment of their entitlements by the club.

The fans, therefore, requested the dissolution of the club's present management under the leadership of Kunbi Titiloye.

The statement continued: “The tenure of the present management ended at the end of federation cup competition 2023. Hence there is a need for the state government to dissolve them immediately so that the incoming board will start the preparation for the new season that will commence in August in earnest.

“It was known to every stakeholder in the state that the chairmanship of Kwara United FC has been the privilege of Kwara South senatorial district for the past 12 years having had Thompson Oladimeji Henry George at the helms for 8 years, while the outgoing chairman Mr Kunbi Titilaye had spent four years.

“Sir, we are appealing to you to look for an experienced football administrator with good credibility from Kwara central senatorial district this time around

“Lastly Sir, it will interest you to know that during the last governorship election when every Kwaran voted for you for your second term in office, Mr Kunbi Titilaye was nowhere to be found to vote or mobilize support for your excellent success at the poll. It was confirmed that he traveled out of the state because he thought you are going to lose.”
