Adamawa State Government Confirms Eight Persons Dead, Seven Missing In Boat Accident

On Friday, Saharareporters reported that no fewer than 15 persons were feared dead in a local boat accident in the state.

The boat reportedly capsized while conveying locals including children in a popular Njuwa lake across Rugange village in the Yola South Local Government Area of the state on Friday afternoon.

Confirming the fertility on Saturday, the Executive Secretary of ADSEMA, Suleiman Aminu said, "So far we've recovered eight dead bodies, we've also rescued eight persons and we're still searching for about seven others.

"Actually there were 23 persons on the boat who were returning from Rigange where they went to purchase maize. Their boat capsized due to bad weather, there was thunderstorm actually about the time they got on the boat.

"Today, the deputy governor visited the site and directed us to identify all crossing points in the state, so that live jackets would be provided for passengers," he said.

Aminu also advised operators of inland waterways commercial transportation to avoid overloading and bad weather periods.
