An officer of the Nigerian Navy, Orukevwe Eritomi Augustine, has reportedly brutalised a 64-year-old grandmother with clubs and cables over a land dispute in Delta State, SaharaReporters has learnt.

Augustine, a naval rating, in company with two colleagues and some of his relations on Tuesday, reportedly stormed the residence of Mrs Odafe Utobore and ordered her to leave the house immediately, claiming the land on which the property was built belonged to his father.

The three naval officers, alongside four others, reportedly pounced on the grandmother, beating her to a stupor with electric cables, and clubs, among other weapons.

Other people reported to have been brutalised by the naval ratings are Arigo Jackson, Florence Utobore and Evelyn Utobore.

The incident happened at Egbo quarters in Uwheru in the Ughelli North Local Government Area of the state.

Narrating the incident, Odafe’s daughter, Florence Utobore, said, "Orukevwe came into our compound this morning with two other soldiers, his father, mother and two brothers.

"They first attacked my cousin, hitting him with wood and electric cables. When my mother came out to inquire why, they all pounced on her till she fainted.

"About now, my mother and cousin have been hospitalised at the General Hospital in Ughelli.”

The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ughelli Police Station, CSP Ibong has confirmed the arrest of four persons, while the three naval officers were said to be on the run.

Florence Utobore, who was also injured during the attack, has called on the Navy authorities to investigate and punish the officers.
