The Nigeria Police Force has arrested some officers who kidnapped and extorted N50,000 from a youth, identified as Uche Pokoye in Rivers State.

This was contained in a post made by the Rivers State Command of the police on X platform, formerly Twitter.

“The Rivers State Police Command has identified and arrested Police Officers alleged on a video posted by @UchePOkoye, the Command also wants to plead with the General Public to synergise with us in the fight against crime. @PoliceNG.”

Uche had described how the police locked him up in a cell in a video he released.

He said, “There was no really nothing I can do. You know I was stuck there. Nobody knew I was there. I just needed to go out. The smell of piss and aisle in the cell. I didn’t want to go back inside there. So I have to negotiate with the police officer to pay a ransom. I won’t call it bail, it is a ransom. I went to withdraw N50,000 and paid them cash because they don’t collect transfers.  So that it will not be traceable.”

SaharaReporters had recently reported how no fewer than eight police officers were dismissed from the Nigeria Police Force for extortion, extrajudicial killings and other unprofessional conducts in Imo State.

SaharaReporters had also reported how operatives of the Nigeria Police Force attached to Delta State Command on roadblock at Warri along Port Harcourt-Okuokoko expressway allegedly extorted N53,000 from a man, Ufezime Ubi on gunpoint.

SaharaReporters gathered that Ubi was forced to transfer the money to one of the policemen's accounts with the name Patrick Nkwor after they had beaten him and his cousin, Samuel Ifeh to a stupor.
