The Federal Medical Centre in Keffi, Nasarawa State, North-Central Nigeria has issued a two-week ultimatum for the retrieval of unclaimed corpses in the hospital.

This ultimatum was contained in a press statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the medical centre, Miss Esther Bature, asserting that corpses were unclaimed for an extended period.

According to Bature, the decision of the medical centre's management to impose the deadline is owing to the fact that some of the corpses were brought to the hospital in 2021 and others in 2022, exceeding the legal time limit of 6 months.

“Consequently, members of the public who lost their loved ones during the stated period indicated herein, may please, visit the hospital’s morgue for possible identification and claim,” she said.

As a result, the PRO emphasised that when the two-week deadline expires on Friday, September 22, 2023, the medical centre will be left with no choice but to mass bury the nine unclaimed corpses.
