Human rights and pro-democracy group, the Take-It-Back Movement (TIB), has asked the Nigeria Police Force, Lagos State command to investigate the alleged physical assault and extortion a resident, Miss Ajakpovi Osamudiame Karis, by her employer, Mr. Idowu Lawrence Oluwabusayo, and by policemen attached to the Ilasan Division.

SaharaReporters earlier reported that Karis accused some police officers attached to Ilasan Division, Lagos Island, the DPO of the Division and her employer, Mr. Oluwabusayo of physically assaulting her and extorting the sum of N10,000 from her.

Miss Karis, who said the incident happened on Thursday had alleged that she was assaulted and injured and that she hardly moves her neck, adding that her phone was damaged in the process.

Karis alleged that she was arrested and accused of blackmailing Mr. Oluwabusayo with a threat to release his nude videos and pictures and for hacking his Tik Tok account, saying that she was made to write an undertaking under duress.

Reacting to the incident, the Take-It-Back Movement condemned the incident, describing it as “unprofessional conduct of the police, act of misconduct, Illegal arrest and extortion.”

The group in a statement issued by its Lagos State Coordinator, Adekunle Adeyemi Taofeek, said that “Nigeria police are meant to protect the weak and vulnerable,” but that “It is very unfortunate that they have become mere instruments in the hands of the wealthy and highly connected to oppress and intimidate ordinary people.

“We call on the Lagos State commissioner of police, CP Idowu Owohunwa to investigate this and bring all culprits to book.”
