SaharaReporters earlier reported that the chairman was arraigned by the Ogun State Police Command after his arrest on Monday evening.

The Customary Court 2 in the Isabo area of Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, has remanded the impeached chairman of the Ijebu East Local Government Area of Ogun State, Adewale Adedayo, in prison pending the perfection of his bail.

SaharaReporters earlier reported that the chairman was arraigned by the Ogun State Police Command after his arrest on Monday evening.

He was arraigned on a two-count charge for allegedly publishing an alleged false story about local government funds diversion by the state government.

This follows a petition filed by the state government over the alleged zero allocation and diversion of local government funds by the state government, an allegation which has been denied by the government.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge proffered against him.

The counsel to the defendant, Kayode Akinsola, prayed for the court to grant his client bail, promising that the defendant would not jump bail if granted and would honour all conditions attached to the bail application to which the prosecuting counsel, Olaide Rolly, did not object.

Delivering her judgement for the bail application, the presiding judge, A K Araba, admitted the defendant to bail of N2 million and two sureties with landed properties, among others within the jurisdiction of the court.

The case has however been adjourned till October 20 for the next hearing while the defendant has been remanded at the Ibara Correctional Centre in Abeokuta.

Adedayo had accused Governor Abiodun of diverting statutory Federal allocations of all the 20 LGs in the state.

He also petitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), seeking Abiodun’s probe on the allegations.

SaharaReporters had more than a week ago reported that councillors of Ijebu East Local Government Area of Ogun State announced the impeachment of the suspended Chairman, Wale Adedayo.

Meanwhile, Adedayo was charged to court on Tuesday morning over a petition filed by the Ogun State Government against the erstwhile chairman on allegation of diversion of funds meant for council areas in the state.

Adedayo had on Monday disclosed his arrest by the police via a Facebook post on his timeline, adding that he was ready to die.

“Son of man is being taken to Ogun State Police CID at Eleweran, Abeokuta. They claim the State Government wrote a petition against me. If it is death, I follow the path of the Patriarchs. Ase di owo Olodumare (authority belongs to God)!,” he wrote.
