Prices of food items and other essential commodities have skyrocketed in the country, following President Tinubu's May 29 inaugural declaration of ending subsidy on PMS, also known as petrol.

The Federal College of Education (FCE) Yola, Adamawa State, has distributed food items to students to cushion the hardship caused by the removal of subsidy on Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) by the President Bola Tinubu-led Nigerian government.

Prices of food items and other essential commodities have skyrocketed in the country, following President Tinubu's May 29 inaugural declaration of ending subsidy on PMS, also known as petrol.

Responding to the hardship being faced by students, the Provost of FCE Yola, Prof. Mohammed Usman Degereji noted that the management decided to support the students with food items to ease their pressure during examination.

While unveiling the packages at the school campus on Friday, the provost of the collage, Prof. Degereji said N7 million was spent in procuring the noodles.

"The management thought providing food items to our students will reduce the pressure during examination period like this to allow them focus on their exams.

"We spent N7 million to purchase 1500 cartons of noodles for 3000 students living on campus.

"The management also provides free transportation to off campus staff to help them cope with the challenges of daily movement to and from the collage," Degereji said.

"The gesture is the first of its kind in the country and is worth emulating," a staff member, Abubakat Bello said during the distribution.

Joy Angelou, who spoke on behalf of the students, thanked the college management and pledged they would come out with good results after their examinations.
