Some of the residents condemned the state governor, Dauda Lawal for attending social functions like weddings and partying while residents were being killed.

Residents of Zamfara State in Northwest Nigeria have raised the alarm over the persisting violence in the state with prevailing cases of bandit attacks, kidnappings and killings of the people.

Some of the residents condemned the state governor, Dauda Lawal for attending social functions like weddings and partying while residents were being killed.

One of the residents of the state, Aliyu Mai Kakee, told SaharaReporters that the people of the state were living in fear as a result of frequent deadly attacks.

Another resident who spoke under the condition of anonymity lamented that while people of the state are being kidnapped and killed almost on a daily basis, the state governor, Dauda Lawal, has “failed” to take the necessary actions to provide security for the people.

The resident said, “It is disheartening to see that while these issues persist, Governor Dauda seems to be attending celebratory events like singer Ali Jita's wedding, where people were dancing and exchanging money.

“This stark contrast between the ongoing suffering and the governor's engagement in festivities highlights the need for immediate action and awareness.”

Calling for urgent attention and help on the situation in the state, Kakee provided picture evidence of some people who were recently kidnapped, killed or injured.

According to him, some of the victims who escaped from the kidnappers’ den are currently in undisclosed hospitals.

Kakee lamented that the security situation in Zamfara state has become so terrible that “the people of Zamfara State are in dire need of assistance regarding the ongoing security crisis”.

“Lives are at risk and immediate attention to these issues is crucial. The people of Zamfara State are enduring a grave crisis marked by fear, violence, and kidnappings. It's essential that immediate attention is given to their plight,” he said.

He said armed robbers opened fire on some travellers travelling from Magami to Gusau during the weekend.

Kakee also provided evidence of three cars that were burnt by bandits during the attack on the victims who were travelling to Magami.

“If we don't take immediate action, people will continue to lose their lives every month in Zamfara State. It is high time we considered declaring a state of emergency to address this ongoing crisis in the state,” Kakee said.
