Henshaw, Okey Bakassy and some other celebrities will head the hosting of the fundraiser for Governor Uzodimma’s re-election in the forthcoming November governorship election in the state.

Some Nigerians on X (formerly Twitter) have lambasted a Labour Party stalwart and Nollywood star, Kate Henshaw, for heading the second term fundraiser for the Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Henshaw, Okey Bakassy and some other celebrities will head the hosting of the fundraiser for Governor Uzodimma’s re-election in the forthcoming November governorship election in the state.

However, some X users who have followed Henshaw’s consistent support for the Labour Party and its presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, Peter Obi have called her out for what they described as enabling oppressors to remain in power.

The actress is one of the top supporters of Obi, a movement whose members are known as Obidients.

In an attempt to justify her action, Henshaw said, “Someone called me this morning to check the X app. I was invited to host a fundraiser alongside my colleague. I accepted. My prerogative.

“What is the noise about? The difference between you and I is that I will still speak my truth as I see fit. End of.”

But a popular human rights activist, Femi Adeyeye and chieftain of the African Action Congress, said, “Hosting an event means you approve of what the event is about. There’s no how you will host such an event that you won’t say good things about the person, the government and the party you are raising funds for.

“In fact, you are the major brander for that night. That’s why you are the HOST. You will talk the most, appear the most and appeal to people’s emotions the most.

“You are the face of the campaign for that night. It’s an approval of what the APC represents. Where the hypocrisy now lies is in castigating other creatives when they take up similar jobs.

“I hope you won’t do that. Aunty Kate. This is not about being a professional. That’s why some of us are different. If it conflicts with our idea of a better society, we can as well reject it.

“There’s always an option of NO. Una no go die. No be every food wey pass person front, person dey chop. Fighting for a just society is sacrifice not comfort. Cheers.”

Dj SpoiltKid said, “Madam Kate you checked the X app because you're well aware of your actions. Stop lying. It's disgraceful and unpleasant to see you involved in such a fundraising effort.

“Do you know exactly what you've just done? A man came to power from nowhere, and has been very cruel to the people of IMO State that all is aware of his evil deeds and you say you were invited for fundraising? “Chukwu kpuo ma gi ma fundraising oku there. You should stand with the people and not partake in subverting their wishes. Don’t repeat this nonsense next time.” Another angry X user, @iamJimmyGentle, said, “Disappointed. You don't enable the oppressors to power and then return to speak truth to them. A person of principle shouldn't accept every gig.

“I mean the same criminal structure we are trying to dismantle? If Boko Haram or Hamas invites you to fundraise for them nko?”

Another X user, @JardaniJovonovv said, “The key word here is 'principĺe', she just showed she has none. You can't enable the oppressors then come back later and say you are a truth speaker.”

Also, @pimpylove101 wrote, “Exactly. If Boko Haram invites her to help them raise funds, will she go because she is trying to be a professional? It's absurd how we think in this country. Everybody dey reason with their stomach.”

Another X user, @iconicone31 said, “So if Tinubu had invited you to host a fundraiser alongside with your colleagues, you would have accepted? 2023 my year of divine discovery!” and @obasi_chinaza said, “We are not yet ready in this country my dear, that’s why the politicians keep taking us for granted.”
