November 15, 2023

According to the statement, the suspension came as a result of the NLC and TUC's statewide strike, as well as the university unions' decision to join the walkout.

The management of Bayero University, Kano State (BUK) has suspended its ongoing 2022/2023 first semester undergraduate examinations and all other academic activities until further notice due to the industrial action embarked upon by the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and its affiliate bodies.

This was contained in a statement signed by the acting Registrar of the university, Mrs Amina Abdullahi.

According to the statement, the suspension came as a result of the NLC and TUC's statewide strike, as well as the university unions' decision to join the walkout.

The message, on the other hand, asked all students to remain calm and await additional instructions from administration.

The statement reads: “Following the Nationwide strike embarked upon by the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress(TUC) and subsequent decision by the University Unions to join the strike, the Management of Bayero University, Kano has decided to suspend the ongoing 2022)2023 First Semester Undergraduate examinations and all other academic activities until further notice.

“Meanwhile, all students are to remain calm and await further directives from the Management.

“It should be noted that the ongoing examinations are half-way through and as soon as the strike is over, the examinations would continue.”

SaharaReporters earlier reported that Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) directed its members to join the nationwide strike declared by the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria, starting from Monday midnight.

ASUU stated this in a circular to its zonal coordinators and chairpersons, signed by Emmanuel Osodeke, ASUU President and obtained by SaharaReporters.
