Osun State members of the Judiciary Staff Union (JSU) on Monday shut down the entrance to the Osun State High Court in Osogbo, the state capital, in protest against the sacked Chief Judge of the state, Justice Adepele Ojo and the management of the activities of the judiciary in the state.

The protesting judicial workers led by one Mr Gbenga Eludire, prevented movement into the premises of the State High Court.

According to PUNCH, the protesters carried placards with different inscriptions including “Judiciary staff deserves better,” “We are tired of oppression and stagnation,” and “Unlawful suspension of Judiciary staff without recourse to Judicial Service Commission is barbaric,” among others.

SaharaReporters earlier reported that the state Governor, Ademola Adeleke wrote to the Chief Justice of the Federation (CJN), recommending the appointment of Justice Olayinka David Afolabi as the Osun State Chief Judge to replace the sacked Chief Judge, Justice Ojo.

SaharaReporters had reported how controversy trailed Governor Adeleke’s approval of the order of the State House House of Assembly sacking Justice Ojo over allegations of gross misconduct.

Governor Adeleke subsequently appointed Justice Olayinka as acting CJ, but the move was rejected by the Nigerian Bar Association and stakeholders in the judiciary, creating controversy over the appointment.
