BREAKING: Court Of Appeal Affirms Governor Yahaya’s Election, Throws Out PDP Petition
November 23, 2023

The Court of Appeal sitting in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, on Thursday affirmed the election of the Gombe State Governor, Inuwa Yahaya.

The appeal court dismissed the appeal filed by Muhammad Jibrin Barde of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The Independent National Electoral Commission had declared Yahaya the winner of the governorship election after scoring 342,821 votes to beat his closest rival Jibrin Barde who polled 233,131 votes.

Displeased with the outcome of the election, the PDP alleged that Yahaya was not re-elected by a majority of lawful votes.

The party also alleged that multiple thumb printing and ballot box stuffing were carried out across various polling units in nine out of the 11 local government areas of the state to favour Yahaya.

But the election petition tribunal dismissed the petition.

Not pleased, the PDP candidate and his party approached the appelate court.

Barde’s lawyers maintained that the PDP candidate scored the majority of the lawful votes cast during the poll, adding that multiple thumb printing and ballot box stuffing took place in nine local government areas of the state in favour of Governor Yahaya.

The Court of Appeal, on Thursday, dismissed the appeal.
