SaharaReporters had reported how Oluomo was impeached after he was accused of gross misconduct, and financial misappropriation among others.

The Ogun State House of Assembly on Tuesday announced Honourable Oludaisi Elemide as the new Speaker shortly after the impeachment of Hon Olakunle Taiwo Oluomo.

SaharaReporters had reported how Oluomo was impeached after he was accused of gross misconduct, and financial misappropriation among others.

A copy of an impeachment letter signed by 18 members of the house and obtained by SaharaReporters on Tuesday reads in part: 4. Consequent upon the gross misconduct of MR SPEAKER which bothers on highhandedness, lack of focus and transparency, arrogance and poor leadership style, financial misappropriation and inciting members against themselves.

“5. Sequel to the gross misconduct above mentioned and in consonance with section 92 (2)(C) of the constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria and Order 11 of the Standing rule of the House of Assembly, We the undersigned duly elected members of the 10" Assembly of Ogun State House of Assembly move for the impeachment of MR SPEAKER, RT HON. OLAKUNLE TAIWO OLUOMO with immediate effect.”

A video uploaded by AriseNews TV seen by SaharaReporters showed the moment the new Speaker was asked to sit on the speaker’s seat during the plenary.
This development generated unrest among the lawmakers as the video showed them shouting at one another over the leadership tussle.

It would be recalled that Oludaisi Elemide was Oluomo’s opponent at the last speakership election held in June 2023.

The two lawmakers are members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), which has 17 of the 26 seats in the House. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has the remaining nine members.
