Preliminary Report Attributes Ibadan Private Jet Accident To Brake Failure

According to the preliminary report on the jet accident obtained by SaharaReporters on Friday, the authorities said the aircraft halted at a distance of 170metres from the end of the runway.

 

A preliminary report on the Mattini Air private jet accident in Ibadan, Oyo State, has stated that the cause of the mishap was a brake failure which made the aircraft to overshoot the runway.

According to the preliminary report on the jet accident obtained by SaharaReporters on Friday, the authorities said the aircraft halted at a distance of 170metres from the end of the runway.

“REPORT ON THE RUNWAY OVERSHOOT OF A PRIVATE JET ON RUNWAY 04; Above subject matter refers. I write to inform you of an incident that occurred at about 1055HRS where a private jet with Mattini Air and registration number N580KR from Abuja which landed on runway 22 and after a preliminary unconfirmed investigation it was reported that there was a brake failure, and the aircraft overshot the runway and eventually halted at a distance of 170m from end of the runway 04 which is 60m away from the threshold making it an overall estimated distance of 230m away from the threshold of runway 04.

“The aircraft had 15 souls on board, 12 of which are passengers and 3nos crew members. All souls on board were successfully evacuated by our ARFFS and other relevant officers. There is no casualty.”

SaharaReporters earlier reported that the aircraft having about 12 passengers including Very Important Personalities (VIPs) crash-landed in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
Sources said the type CL-60 jet crash-landed on Friday around 11am at the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport.

It was coming in from the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
The jet which had 12 passengers and three crew members with registration number, N580KR, missed the runway into the nearby bush.

SaharaReporters had on November 4, 2023, reported that a private aircraft, with registration number 5N-AMM, conveying the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu and his entourage, crash-landed in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

Meanwhile in the latest incident, firefighters and rescue officials from the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) were immediately deployed to the scene. But there was no death or casualty recorded.

When contacted, a spokesman for the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau, Tunji Oketunmbi, said he would revert but he was yet to do so as of press time.

The rate of aviation incidents in the past few months has been concerning despite the sacking and replacement of heads of aviation agencies.
