The Nigeria Police Force, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command has denied knowledge of the planned nationwide protest by the organised labour led by the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC).
SaharaReporters last week reported that the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) declared a two-day nationwide mass protest slated for February 27 and 28 over the biting hardship in the country.

At a meeting between the labour leaders and officials of the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, headed by the Minister of State for Labour, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, on Monday, the labour leaders had said only the government could stop the planned strike by addressing the 15-point agreement reached on October 2, 2023.
One of the labour leaders at the meeting had said that though the minister pleaded with the labour leaders to shelve the planned strike, stressing that the federal government was already addressing labour demands, the labour leaders were adamant.
Meanwhile, Daily Post reports that concerned over the security situation in the nation’s capital, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, said that operatives of the command would be on ground during the protest to forestall a breakdown of law.
However, the FCT police spokesperson said that the command had not been officially informed of any planned protest in the territory.
Adeh was quoted as saying, “I wish to note that the FCT Police Command isn’t aware of any intending protest.
“However measures will be emplaced to ensure that hoodlums do not take advantage of any activities of the NLC to disrupt the peace in the FCT if the protest does occur.”
