Nigerian University, UNICAL Imposes N25,000 On Law Students As 'Annual Professional Fees'

The Faculty of Law, University of Calabar (UNICAL) has imposed the sum of N25,000 on its students as a compulsory annual professional fees. 

This was made known by the management of the law faculty in a memo signed by the Dean of the faculty, Dr. (Mrs.) Rose Ohiama Ugbe, titled "Payment of Professional Fees by all Students" and dated February 21, 2024 with a reference number: UC/LAW/09 and addressed to all students of the faculty.

The memo obtained by SaharaReporters read, “The Faculty Management having discussed with the students' body on Monday, 19 February. 2024, on the importance and necessity of payment of professional charges to cover for the Council of Legal Education Accreditation exercise amongst others, I hereby convey the approval of the University Administration that all students pay the sum of Twenty-Five Thousand Naira (N25,000) annually to cover for the said professional charges.

“It is necessary to state here that all students offering professional courses in the University of Calabar pay these professional charges.

“Please note that payment commences this academic session: 2023/2024 session. Your cooperation is highly solicited please.”
