The Upper legislative Chamber which directed that the order should form part of police annual recruitment processes, mandated the Committees on Police Affairs and Legislative Compliance to ensure compliance.

To ensure adherence to Federal Character Principle in the recruitment of constables in the Nigerian Police Force, the Senate, on Thursday, mandated the Police Service Commission and the Police Force to recruit a minimum of 10 candidates from each of the 774 local government councils in the country.

The Upper legislative Chamber which directed that the order should form part of police annual recruitment processes, mandated the Committees on Police Affairs and Legislative Compliance to ensure compliance.

The Senate directive followed a motion moved at the plenary by Senator Emmanuel, Udende Memga representing Benue North East, which drew the attention of the members on the need for the Police Service Commission and the Nigeria Police Force, to adhere to the Federal Character Principle in the recruitment of constables in the Nigerian Police Force.

During the plenary session, a bill for an act to establish the National Assembly Budget and Research Office, passed second reading.

The bill if eventually passed into law will provide the National Assembly with objective, timely and non-partisan analysis needed for economic and budget decisions.

It is sponsored by the Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibrin, who represents Kano North Senatorial District.
