Suspected Boko Haram terrorists have kidnapped over 100 internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Borno State, Northeast Nigeria.

SahaReporters learnt that the IDPs were kidnapped in Gamboru Ngala, near the Nigerian border with the Republic of Chad.

They were kidnapped while fetching firewood in a bush on Sunday, according to residents of the area.

"On Sunday some displaced persons went to fetch firewood, but they were kidnapped by Boko Haram - about 200 of them, male and female.

“But the terrorists selected the able-bodied (ones) amongst them and freed the children and the elderly," a source who spoke on condition of anonymity said.

This comes a few days after the state governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, boasted that 95 percent of fighters with Boko Haram ideology had either been killed or surrendered to Nigerian troops.

In the past ten years, Boko Haram terrorists have killed thousands of people and forced millions of others out of their homes.
