Sowore, a former African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, said that criminally rich people and corporations hire the police and use them to constantly and consistently oppress and violate the rights of ordinary Nigerians.

#RevolutionNow convener, Omoyele Sowore, has described the Nigeria Police Force as a force for hire which is at the beck and call of the criminally rich and connected members of the elite class in Nigeria.

Sowore, a former African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, said that criminally rich people and corporations hire the police and use them to constantly and consistently oppress and violate the rights of ordinary Nigerians.

Sowore in a post on his X (formerly Twitter) handle on Friday said, “The @PoliceNG is a force for hire; it is public knowledge. They get on the retainer-ship of the criminally rich, powerful and connected members of the elite in Nigeria.”

According to the human rights activist, “For these ‘special class’ of people or corporations, they’d kill, dismember and destroy anyone.

“The “ERISCO TOMATOGATE” is one example of shameful and brazen police action.

“Personalities like @Prince_NedNwoko, Sir Emeka Offor, Arthur Eze, and @APOSTLESULEMAN, to mention a few, are some of the people from whom we've rescued victims of these transactional corrupt police tactics and with time, public advocacy and resistance will consume so many of these criminal transactions between the @policeng and private individuals who've consistently hired them to violate rights of innocents.”

“We must fight for these victims and ensure that the ‘cybercrime’ act is also defeated,” he added.

SaharaReporters reported on Thursday that the Nigerian police had asked Chioma Okoli to show up to allow justice to take its course in the matter involving her and Erisco Foods Limited.

Last Friday, SaharaReporters reported that human rights lawyer, Inibehe Effiong, had sought the permission of the court to move the lawsuit from Abuja to Lagos.

The suit was filed by Erisco Foods Limited against Mrs Chioma Okoli, a female customer who was previously arrested for her negative review of the tomato product of the company.

SaharaReporters in January reported that policemen on the alleged orders of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, invaded the residence of Okoli in Lagos State.
