Nigerian Emergency Agency, NEMA Laments Lack Of Water Supply To Stop Lagos Inferno

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has narrated how its personnel struggled to quench a fire outbreak on Wednesday morning in Idumota, Lagos State.

SaharaReporters had reported how at least four buildings were impacted in the fire incident which destroyed properties worth millions of naira. 

Confirming the incident, in a statement via its official X handle, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service had said it received a distress call about the fire incident around 7:40am, and emergency services swiftly mobilised its personnel to fight the fire.

The agency had added that properties were damaged and the casualties from the incident were yet to be identified as of the time of filing this report. 

Giving an update on the incident, Ibrahim Farinloye, NEMA zonal coordinator, South-West said the NEMA team suffered a serious challenge of supply of water. 

He continued: “Fire trucks go as far as Guinness to source for water. Three pieces of 4-storey buildings and one of 5-Storey building are engulfed in fire.”

“One of the 4-storey buildings had collapsed under the intensity of the fire,” he added. 

Farinloye added neither injury nor casualty was recorded from the fire incident.
