The Delta State Police Command has deleted a post on its X platform handle where it announced that the police commissioner in the state had ordered that cells should be opened for detained criminals ready to repent, in the spirit of the Easter celebration.

The command on Monday morning made a post on its X handle announcing that the commissioner had ordered area commanders, divisional police officers and tactical commanders to open their cells to detained criminals willing to repent from their criminal ways.

According to the message, the commissioner gave the order in the spirit of the new month/Easter and to prove that police are people's friend.

The post read, “In the spirit of new month/Easter, And because we are your friends and you are our friends too, our kind hearted commissioner has ordered all the Area Commanders, DPO's and Tactical Commanders to open their Cell to whoever wants to repent from their criminal activities.”

The command however deleted the post shortly after it was posted and has yet to explain why the message was deleted.

Efforts to get the command's comment on why the post was deleted failed as the spokesperson for the state police command, SP Bright Edafe did not answer calls from our correspondent.
