El-Rufai Has Made Kaduna Ungovernable For Governor Sani, Says Bwala
April 1, 2024

Mr Bwala in a post made on X on Sunday morning said El-Rufai made Kaduna ungovernable with the debt burden.

The former spokesman for the Atiku Presidential Campaign Organisation, Dr Daniel Bwala has berated the former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai for leaving a debt to the tune of $587 million and N85 billion for his successor, as alleged by Governor Uba Sani.

Mr Bwala in a post made on X on Sunday morning said El-Rufai made Kaduna ungovernable with the debt burden.

Bwala wrote: “There are two ways a bad leader can make a state ungovernable; one is to promote or allow insecurity to thrive and the other is to leave a debt burden beyond states’ comprehension.

“With a debt burden of 587 million Dollars, 85 billion Naira, and 115 Contractual Liabilities, the past administration of Kaduna State has made the state ungovernable.

“May God help Governor Sani to find ways to govern Kaduna State."

SaharaReporters reported on Saturday that Governor Sani had raised the alarm about the inherited debt, claiming it was preventing him from paying workers’ salaries.

He, however, stated that despite the state government's massive financial burden, he had not borrowed a single kobo in the last nine months of his administration.

The governor, who disclosed this in Kaduna on Saturday while addressing a Town Hall Meeting, noted that the state's massive debt burden was eating deep into its monthly Federal Allocation of Funds, making it difficult to pay monthly salaries.

Governor Sani complained that, as the currency rate has risen, Kaduna State is now repaying nearly three times what it borrowed during the previous government of former governor El-Rufai.

He explained that N7 billion out of the N10 billion federal allocation due to the state in March was removed to service the debt.

The governor also lamented that the state was left with N3 billion, which is insufficient to cover salaries, as the state's monthly salary bill is N5.2 billion.
