Obaseki picked 37-year-old Omobayo Godwin as his new deputy.

Shortly after the Edo State House of Assembly impeached the state deputy governor Philip Shaibu, the state Governor, Godwin Obaseki picked his replacement.

Obaseki picked 37-year-old Omobayo Godwin as his new deputy.

A video posted by Channels Television on X shows that Omobayo’s inauguration was set to hold on Monday (today) at the State Government House in Benin City.

The video shows that some guests were already seated while some were just arriving for the swearing-in ceremony.

SaharaReporters earlier reported that the State House of Assembly impeached the deputy governor, Shaibu on Monday after it adopted the report of a seven-member probe panel set up to probe allegations of gross misconduct against him.

The State Assembly had accused Shaibu of leaking the state government’s secrets and committing perjury, describing Shaibu’s alleged offences as impeachable.

This comes amid a prolonged rift between Governor Obaseki and Shaibu.

The Assembly made the allegation last Wednesday stating its case at the inaugural sitting of the seven-man panel set up by the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Daniel Okungbowa, to probe the deputy governor.
