Aiyedatiwa's Budget Padding: So Much For A #5Billion Printer's "Error!" By Kunle Wizeman Ajayi

Reading through the defence of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and his admittance of an erroneous budgeting of five billion Naira (#5b) for "The Nigerian for Women Project (World Bank Supported) instead of N18 Million for "the renovation for Daycare Project."

Aiyedatiwa believes it "is a regrettable Printer’s interpolation error that occurred during the process of preparing the document for publication." This looks funny as a Printer only prints but doesn't edits nor retype. So, how come does a printer commit such a mathematical error of increasing an allocation of #18million to #5billion? Haaa!

The most embarrassing of Aiyedatiwa's defence is that illogical position that “this error would have remained almost undetectable were it not for the eagle eye by Saharareporters because the Ondo State Budget System is e-based and the correct figures are reflected on the portal as shown below (www.ondobudget.Org)." Does it mean that a budget is done without a due editing. How was the total calculation arrived at? Then the embarrassing position that the Budget system is "e-based" yet it is altered and tampered with by a "Printer" shows that Governor Aiyedatiwa is clever by half. No logical reasoning in his defense actually. Nothing adds up!

There is also another fraud that the "Ministry" is taking full responsibility, yet the statement is issued by Pastor Igbasan who is the governor's Media Aide. They even throw dusts into our eyes pontificating that the multi-billion "error will not materialize and almost impossible to detect" at "operational level?" These guys are not even tidy with their level of lies and roguery. You pad something on paper, and you are telling us it won't show in practice?

On the World Bank Loans; I ask, why is Ondo State taking loans? Why is it that it is the World Bank that gives us money to do dams when Ondo state is such a. blessed state? Why is the current Government so clueless that it is Loans that is being activated? What is happening at Oluwa Forest Reserve, and such other properties of Ondo state being fleeced?

The Aiyedatiwa government is as irresponsible and full of impunity as the Akeredolu government. The only expertise is in turning #18milion to #5billion through a ghost Printer. Ondo state people should be keen on eternal vigilance if the lessons from the abject pains, penuries, and crises of the immediate past government is anything to go by.

To rebuild Ondo state, we need new government that have the people at the heart of budgeting and economic planning, not these elements who think of satisfying their private pockets all the time. This is why the African Action Congress (AAC) is presenting the #IrapadaOndo alternative. We cannot continue to trust our growth and development with the purveyors of "Printer's errors."
