Saharareporters learned today of the management's plan to “digress students' resistance” against the rejected fees regime.

Our correspondent also learned that the Vice University Chancellor, Professor Bamitale Omole, has sent security agents to scout for, and arrest, any member of the Students' Union executive for their roles in daring to mobilize the students against the announcement of increased fees.

The new plan to proscribe Students' Union is considered ‘a feeble move’ by the management to avert resistance of the announced policies by students.

A source knowledgeable of the management's plan suggested that it still has ‘more policies to introduce,’ but are still being delayed because they would be met by new resistance from the students.  The source said proscription of the Students' Union had become next counsel taken by the Vice Chancellor to end the students' resistance to the hiked fees, and to intimidate them into acceptance of the announced prices.

"Hunt for members of the Union executives is a plan to victimize the student leaders for mobilizing to resist the hiked fees, and also to intimidate the students into cold acceptance (of those fees,") the source told SaharaReporters.

Another source said the security men are looking surreptitiously to arrest the President of the Students' Union, so as to ‘frame him’ for summary court charges, and subsequently remove him from leading students onward in their opposition to the fee hikes.

The students had hung on in their occupation of the campus buildings since last week, against an order to vacate the campus. The order was made against the student’s continued protest, which calls daily for the reversal of the suddenly hiked fees. The vice Chancellor, Bamitale Omole, had insisted the fees were “not reversible.”

Sitting in Ile Ife, the Obafemi Awolowo University has a famous history of “management's oppression of students,” each time promptly met by resistance from leaders of the Student’s Union. More often, executive members of the Students' Union on the campus had suffered victimization in rustication, panel condemnation, and a deliberate mark-down of their exam results.

A brutal conspiracy by the management, say the students, with members of what they call ‘nefarious cultist groups’ used to torture and murder Student leaders, is also a ringing allegation of wrong-doings perpetrated by the institution's management.
