Ekiti State Election: Congrats INEC, Congrats Fayose

June 22, 2014

It is refreshing when the electorate witnesses regime change, it confers legitimacy and strong mandate in the hands of the electorate.

Conference of Nigerian Political Parties (CNPP) congratulates the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for conducting a transparent, free and fair election in Ekiti State's gubernatorial election, a far better conduct than the Anambra State's gubernatorial election.

We also congratulate Ayo Fayose, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for defeating an incumbent. It is refreshing when the electorate witnesses regime change, it confers legitimacy and strong mandate in the hands of the electorate.

CNPP celebrates this victory, because it has shown that sovereignty belongs to the people, who have the inalienable rights to elect whom ever they prefer, not minding like in this instance that the outing going Governor Kayode Fayemi performed in execution of projects, but did not share money.

It is our candid opinion that the wishes of the electorate must prevail at all times, whether they are right or wrong, as the next four years presents another opportunity to vote out or re-elect the incumbent.

We frown at the overzealousness of some security officials who over reached themselves in restricting the movement of APC Governors into Ekiti and the arbitrarily arrest of some officers of the party; for the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and African Charter on Peoples and Human Rights guarantee people of Nigeria the right to Freedom of Movement and Association.
