Human rights body, the Amnesty International, has said the Boko Haram insurgents' attack in Mafa village of Tarmuwa Local Government Area of Yobe State where no fewer than 83 people were killed, is a clear indication of the President Bola Tinubu-led Nigerian government’s utter failure to protect lives and properties in the country.
Amnesty International, which said this on Tuesday while condemning the incident, also said that no fewer than 30 people are still missing while the entire village and farmlands were set ablaze by the insurgents.
According to Amnesty International, an unspecified number of people severely injured during the attack are currently receiving treatment at hospitals in Babban Gida and Damaturu.
The organisation in a series of posts on X said, “Amnesty International strongly condemns the horrific killing of 83 people by Boko Haram at Mafa ward of Tarmuwa LGA Yobe State.
“Additional 30 people are missing — and largely presumed to have been killed during the attack which took place in the evening of Sunday.
“Apart from razing the entire village, Boko Haram also set farmlands on fire and killed some elderly persons who could not run.
“Unspecified number of people severely injured during the attack are now receiving treatment at hospitals in Babban Gida and Damaturu.
“After the attack, villages around Mafa have been deserted, as villagers fled to safety.
“This vicious and unlawful attack, again demonstrates Boko Haram’s contemptible disregard for human life and the Nigerian authorities’ utter failure to protect lives and properties.”

SaharaReporters had reported several scores of residents of the community were reportedly killed by Boko Haram terrorists in the early hours of Monday, when the terrorists invaded the community.
Community sources had told SaharaReporters on Tuesday morning that 86 bodies had been recovered and deposited in the hospitals while the search for remaining victims was ongoing.
One of the top sources, also in the government, wrote, "Boko Haram today (Monday) massacred about 100 people in Mafa village of Tarmuwa LGA of Yobe State. Boko Haram invaded the village earlier today (Monday) killing about 100 villagers.
"There would be mass burial tomorrow (today) in Damaturu, the State Capital.
"Already, 86 corpses have been deposited in the hospitals while searching for other victims intensified."
