Fagbemi openly opposed a proposal by the Senate seeking to amend Nigeria’s anti-terrorism law to prescribe the death penalty, without the option of a fine, for all kidnapping-related offences.
The report seen by SaharaReporters on Thursday contained fresh documentation of killings, abductions and widespread destruction of property across several states.
He explained that the NCTC, operating under the ONSA, “continues to coordinate and support law enforcement, security and intelligence agencies in countering all forms of terrorism in Nigeria.”
In a video obtained by SaharaReporters, a resident recorded the deserted Ayetoro Kiri community, with no one visible in the area. The footage shows locked doors and the only sounds being those of roosters crowing.
The detention followed sharp accusations by the Confederation of Sahel States (AES), which described the aircraft’s landing as an unfriendly act carried out in defiance of international law, raising diplomatic tensions between Abuja and the Sahelian bloc.
